Billing workflows

Three ways to bill your patients

Direct Pay · simplest

Your patient pays the lab

New Century Labs bills your patient at the known cash price. Your clinic never touches the lab bill. Available in every state.

Service Fee

Add a fee for your clinic’s own work

Direct Pay, plus a transparent fee for services your clinic performs: consultation, interpretation, specimen coordination. Available everywhere except New York, New Jersey, and Rhode Island.

Self-Managed Pricing

Your clinic sets the patient price

Buy testing at wholesale and control what your patient pays, where state law allows markup; six of those states require the lab’s charge on the invoice.

Start with the cash-pay lab billing guide. Which workflows your state allows: the state-by-state map. Full comparison: Direct Pay vs Service Fee vs Self-Managed.

The obvious question

What’s the catch? Why does it cost so much less?

A different payment path, not a lower laboratory standard.

Pre-negotiated cash-pay rates

The price is set before a single test runs

Rates agreed up front with Quest Diagnostics’ national laboratory network: no per-claim mystery.

No insurance claims process

Every skipped step is skipped cost

No claims, coding, denials, or collections, and none of the overhead each adds to the price.

Upfront pricing before testing

Your patient sees the number first

Quoted before the draw, with no surprise bill weeks later.

National laboratory access

Same national network, different wrapper

Testing through Quest Diagnostics’ national laboratory network. We coordinate pricing, ordering, payment, and support around it.

No insurance billing of any kind, no membership fee, no volume commitment: you pay the cash price of the tests you order, plus a flat patient draw fee and a small support-based clinic fee, never a percentage.

Questions

Why do I have to verify my clinic to see prices?

Clinic pricing is negotiated for practices, and publishing it to the open internet would put it in front of bots, scrapers, and competitors rather than clinicians. Verification takes about a minute and exists to protect your pricing, not to force you into a sales funnel.

What if my clinic can’t be verified automatically?

You’ll go to a quick manual review, usually same business day. If your practice checks out, we email you a single-use secure access link. The link asks you to confirm before it activates, so email scanners can’t burn it.

Is there a membership fee or volume commitment?

No membership fee and no volume commitment. You pay the cash-pay price for the tests you order, plus a flat patient draw fee. The only other cost is a small support-based clinic fee, never a percentage.

Can I charge my patients more than the sheet price?

How you present lab costs to patients is your practice’s decision under your state’s rules; some states regulate marking up purchased lab tests. We give you the clinic price; patient-facing pricing decisions and their compliance are yours, ideally with advice from your counsel.

How current are the prices on the sheet?

The sheet reflects current sample pricing at the time you view it; it’s fetched live, not a cached PDF. Your account pricing is confirmed when you onboard.

Does the price include the blood draw?

No, and that’s deliberate: the draw fee is its own flat line so the patient’s total is never a guess. You see every figure before the first order.

Can my patients use insurance instead?

New Century Labs is cash-pay only; we never bill insurance. That’s the mechanism that keeps pricing flat and transparent. Patients who prefer insurance-billed testing can still use it through other channels; many practices offer both paths.
